ALBURY.
This township is situated on the right bank of the Murray, where the river’ is crossed by the Great Southern road ; it is 351 miles from Sydney, and 200 from Melbourne. Other distances are 140 miles from Deniliquin, 100 from Gundagai, 77 from Wagga Wagga, and 28 from Beecbworth. By the course of the Murray it is about 300 miles from its source, and about 1800 from its debaucher in Lake Alexandria ; the respective travelling distances being 140 and 700. Albury is 572 feet above the sea level. The Murray has been navigated as far as Albury by steamers. Population 981. Source: Extract from Samson PO Directory 1867
